Elephant Herd Relocation

Malawi’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife made a decision to tranquilize and relocate the country’s last free-ranging elephant population from the forest reserve at Phirilongwe to Majete Wildlife Reserve in the south of the country. Many villagers and elephants were killed and injured during the decades of conflict between elephants and villagers.  83 elephants were relocated.

Tahoe Research Group

I documented the work of Scientists from the University of California, Davis as they measured the “nutrient-loading” into Lake Tahoe.  Algae feed on these nutrients.  The goal is to determine the effect of this pollution on the algae growth and general water clarity of the lake.  The U.C. Davis limnologists have been studying Lake Tahoe for decades.

Below are a few of my nature photographs.

An Encounter With Something I Can't Explain

Like many photographers, I have a habit of shooting the moonrise every so often.  On this particular night in January of 2022, I set up my Panasonic AG-AC160AP on a tripod.  Before I had a chance to adjust the white balance and exposure – I noticed something coming into the frame in the upper left.  I let the camera roll.  A meteorological event?  Something crashing down from space?  I have no idea.  Had it happened a few miles away in downtown Palm Springs I suppose the world would know about it.  But it was just me – alone on the side of 1000 Palms Road near Coachella Valley Preserve.  I searched the area by drone many times, but a very heavy storm had washed away what might have been the obvious evidence of a crash site.
