Apple Computer

I worked with a talented team of photographers, editors and trainers from an Apple Computer training center. The multi-camera shoot featuring Young The Giant was used to produce a “DSLR to Final Cut Pro” editing tutorial video.

Saturday Night Live

I recorded this presentation by Alex Buono, Director of Photography for the Saturday Night Live Film Unit. Alex put my video up on his website.

Dinamation International Corporation

I spent 10 amazing years working with an extremely talented group of artists, scientists, and robotic engineers at Dinamation.  I’m proud to say that our traveling exhibits brought many families into museums for the first time.

Jurassic Park

Kathleen Kennedy, then an assistant to Steven Spielberg, asked for information about “how” we, at Dinamation, created our dinosaurs. She said they were working on a dinosaur film (which eventually became “Jurassic Park”).   I sent her a package that included still photos and video of our design and construction process, including the photo below of the Triceratops “maquette”.  It’s very interesting how similar the dying Triceratops scene in the movie is to our scene.

Building "Baby" For Discovery Communications' Launch Of The Animal Planet Network

I was on the phone once with Andy Holtzman, VP of Event Marketing for Discovery.  He told me they were going to be launching a new channel called “Animal Planet”. They were thinking of using a baby elephant as the logo.  I suggested that we could turn our baby woolly mammoth into a baby elephant.  And so “Baby” was born.

Crayola Mural

A team of artists at Dinamation including; Mike Converse, Q Aloi, Dr. George Callison, Dava Rominello, Rebecca Richards, Mike Leach, Michelle Wren, Brad Yerxa and David Stifter used thousands of Crayola™ crayons donated by parent company Binney and Smith to create this amazing work of art. To aid with the artists’ perspective, I mounted a 3/4″ Sony video camera in the ceiling pointed down and displayed on the monitor seen in the photo below. The mural spent several years at Binney and Smith headquarters, and was featured at the 90th birthday party for Crayola™ held at Universal Studios.  Fortunately, I used my 4×5 camera to capture the image below since the mural no longer exists.

Shimano

I photographed the annual Shimano dealer fishing catalog for several years. The variety of colors, surfaces, and textures made for extremely interesting lighting solutions.

The Ponderosa Ranch

I was hired by the Nevada Pacific Development company – owned by David Duffield – founder of PeopleSoft and Workday, Inc.  Mr. Duffield owned the Ponderosa Ranch in Incline Village, Nevada.  I was asked to guest curate their collection of western and other artifacts at the ranch. The television show “Bonanza” was filmed at the ranch for many years.  I created a catalog of photographs to be used in their appraisal process.  Below are a few of my photos from the Ponderosa collection.

Photojournalism

I spent 9 years as a full-time newspaper photographer and editor.  You never get the ink out of your veins, so I’m always looking for freelance opportunities.  In the video below, I provided the Orange County chase footage exclusively to KTLA in Los Angeles.
